RESPONSIBLE INFRASTRUCTURE

Sustainability, Designed Into the System

AVAIO integrates sustainability into each stage of the data center lifecycle, from site selection and design through construction and operations.

Our goal is to develop sustainable power data centers that support growth in critical IT infrastructure while minimizing environmental impact and creating tangible local benefits.

Our Process

Sustainability Across the Full Lifecycle

Site Selection
Each site is evaluated for existing infrastructure, power mix, grid constraints, water, climate risk, and land use, so campuses leverage what’s already in place and minimize additional environmental impact from day one.
Design
Sustainability is embedded in the core architecture, integrating efficiency, emissions reduction, water conservation, and climate resilience by design.
Construction
We reduce Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions through material choices, logistics optimization, and waste reduction.
Operations
Running efficient, resilient, and low-impact facilities over the long term—adapting as workloads and technologies evolve.
Our framework

Seven Vectors of Sustainability

Maximizing Clean Power
We pursue multiple paths to cleaner power, including long term renewable contracts, grid scale improvements and behind the meter options where they make sense. The goal is not just to offset energy use but to support a more sustainable system over time.

IN ACTION:  In Little Rock, AVAIO is developing 75+ MW of solar in conjunction with the project. This solar will supplement and support a grid that is also 70+% carbon free.
Power Use Efficiency
The greenest electrons are the ones never used. We focus on efficient design, layout, controls and operations to improve power usage effectiveness and reduce waste, particularly for high density AI and HPC workloads.

IN ACTION: AVAIO's leading basis of design enables cooling-to-the-chip technology to maximize the efficiency of the systems in all of our locations
Minimizing Pollutants & Embodied Carbon
Embodied carbon and local pollutants matter as much as operational efficiency. We work with partners to source lower carbon materials where feasible, reduce unnecessary replacement cycles and design for longevity.

IN ACTION: AVAIO has been an early signatory to the iMason's Climate Accord, the goal of which is to improve carbon accounting in data center construction and operations
Minimizing + Diverting Waste
We look for ways to keep construction and operational materials out of landfills through recycling, refurbishment and smarter procurement. That includes thinking about packaging, spare parts and end of life equipment plans.

IN ACTION: In Brandon, AVAIO has prioritized vendors who minimize waste by prefabricating the building's rooftop steel in a facility that minimizes loss during production
Supporting Local Communities
We aim to minimize local impacts and contribute positively. That includes careful planning around noise, traffic and visuals, creating jobs where possible, contributing to local tax bases and exploring partnerships that support education and infrastructure.

IN ACTION: In Appomattox, AVAIO is working with local colleges and universities to establish job training programs for the next generation of technology careers.
Water Conservation
Where cooling designs use water, we focus on closing the loop. That can include using non potable sources, recycling and minimizing evaporative losses. In many cases we look for ways to reduce or avoid water use for cooling altogether.

IN ACTION: In Pittsburg, AVAIO has contracted for all recycled water to support 100% of the site's process cooling and irrigation needs. AVAIO also rehabilitated and reused an existing one-million gallon water storage tank to increase resiliency and balance water demand.
Following Certification Protocols
We benchmark our work against recognized certification protocols and standards such as the US Green Building Council and Green Building Initiative. This provides an external check that our words are matched by documented action and measurable performance.

In Action: AVAIO supports and is engaged with programs who ensure that the next generation of data centers are good stewards of the environment, such as AVAIO's participation in the Green Building Initiative and their Green Globes program.
